Chapter 2

Created during the Greece period of “enlightenment” ;Crimson Tears was a drug using vampire blood and a bit of ancient alchemy learned from the druids, to create a powerful and deadly drug. In humans it makes then stronger, quicker, faster almost like vampires but without the blood lust, but it’s a temporary high and highly addictive…but in vampires…it’s a bit more deadly

“How deadly?” I asked

“It cause’s the vampire to go berserk, killing everyone around him, friend or foe.”

“And now its in possession of humans?”

“Yes, in humans they get a craving for it, but simply going...cold turkey as you say, they can overcome the hunger.”
“But in vamp’s”
“They no longer have any reason, they live only to drink and kill, we become nothing more of beast, losing what little souls we have left.”
I looked over the files, there were pictures and maps. detailing areas and possible warehouses this was created. Nothing concrete just speculation.
“Have you guys investigated these leads?”
“I wouldn’t be sitting here if we hadn’t.” she snapped back
“And?”

“Everyplace we investigated, came up empty, either they are one step ahead of us, or we have a mole.”

“You don’t seem happy with that thought.”

Lilith sat up and adjusted herself “Oh of course the thought of one of my own being a traitor brings me such joy.”

“Sarcasm dulling noted, now the million dollar question why should I help you gain a foot hold into human politics...I mean honestly this information could destroy everything you have set up, and you handed it to me like a cake to a fat baby.”

“That’s so true, why would the city sorcerer, help the vampires gain more power? Why would The powerful Xaos Lao help us out?” She tossed another file at me, I looked through this file, it was pictures of dead men and women.

“These are the human victims of crimson tears, young men and women force to test it out, driven insane by dosages too strong. My people have been...cleaning up this mess, but we fear soon it will be to large for us to contain.” She stood and starred at me intently “Besides that fact I have already wired half a million into your account, its your duty as the human savior to protect the weak and innocent little sheep.”

“Well when you flatter me in such a way, how am I to refuse, what leads do you have?”

She leaned in and the smell vanilla danced off her skin. She was using very powerful magic to try and win me over. One of the things that made vampires so dangerous, was there ability to make it seem you wanted all of it to happen. Their power of attraction, was stronger than any drug. Their bite, more passionate than any lovers kiss. the ability to sap the free will from any victim made them the most dangerous prey...but I was no ordinary mouse to this deadly viper.

“I believe Edwards secretary will fax you some names and locations at a more reasonable hour.” Her voice was silky and smooth, I exhaled lightly and pushed my own power out. It was dark and heavy and ran against her power. Hers was a lust power, full of emotion and longing, mine was dark and evil, a power of destruction and death. She gasped and stepped back. Our powers manifested cause the room to become heavy with magic. the walls rippled and groaned as both of us pushed with our power, her harder than me.

“I would advise you to cut out the theatrics; I am already taking your case there isn’t a need to push your “influence” on me.” I said with a grin.

Edward was behind her, catching before she fell backwards. She looked at me out of breath and a bit unnerved. She snatched herself away from Edwards hold and gave me a look that was half anger, half curiosity.

“I have never felt a power so dark.” She said her breath heavy and labored.

“Is that meant as a compliment?”

“Its how you will take it.” She traced her hands along herself to smooth out her clothing. “Well I have to be going, empires don’t run themselves, Eddie’s secretary will be your morning liaison if you need any questions answered.”

I stood up and bowed showing my respect to the departing royalty, Lilith didn’t look back, she opened the door and two of her guards where standing In the opening. Edward turned around and bowed hesitantly, he then disappeared behind her. It was four in the morning and in about six hours I had a consultation I needed to be at.

“Damn I’m gonna need more coffee.” I muttered to myself

Chapter 1

I’m usually a bit more…well up to par when I meet with a client, but this was a bit unorthodox. It was 3 in the morning, the sun still nestled to sleep, across from me sat a man who would most likely become the next senator of new York city, but at this exact moment he looked more like a lost child then the most powerful man in the city.

“Mister Edwards, would you like some coffee or water, a blood pack.” I said with a laugh. “You look a bit…nervous?!”

He looked up from his hands, and up at me with his deep blue eyes, I could see a swirl of nervousness dance in them.

“I’m sorry can we just wait a few more minutes?” he asked with a chuckle

“Mr. Edwards its three in the morning, I usually don’t meet with clients until….nine hours after.”

He clenched his teeth as if he wanted to say something but was holding back, but all I could see was his strong jaw line clench, and muscle bulge in his neck….if I wasn’t so tired, I would have been a little turned on. I could tell that under his black suit and tie he had a very well defined physique for someone of his age....okay maybe I was not as tired as I thought.

Edward Figurrea; he had held several small political positions, always aiming higher but gain just the bare minimum, but it got him nowhere in the long run. That’s until he hooked up with the right “people”. He re-emerged as the vampire JFK. Suave, sophisticated and good looking, the poster boy for vampire human relations. And since New York is a very progressive city, especially after the great mainstreaming why not start your political career here? Hell there was even a television campaign, promoting the coming out of the “Creatures of Dark”.

“May I ask what, or whom we are waiting on?” I asked with a loud yawn

He opened his mouth as if to speak, but it quickly closed again.

“Is something wrong Mr. Figguera?” I asked

Again no answer, he open his mouth to speak, then it shut close automatically.

“Are you OK?” I asked curious of his response

He open his mouth to speak, but seemed shock when he actually spoke. “No I’m fine.”

“So you can speak?” I said with a half hearted smile

“It seems I can, well for the most part.” he said with a commanding voice.

I looked at him a bit confused, but then a thought crossed my mind. One that should have told me this case would be a little more complicated than I thought.

“Shit its magic.” I said under my breath

He nodded, again unable to speak.

“So whoever we are waiting on wanted to make sure you wouldn't speak about this case before they got here?”

Again he nodded.

“Is it someone in the Guild?” I asked

He shook his head no but gave me a curious look, showing he had never heard of the guild

“So someone powerful enough to place a spell this intricate on a person....well there is only one person but there isn’t anyway she would..” But my question was quickly answered when a voice caused me to look up.

“I'm sorry I’m late, but you know what they say, fashionably late and all that.”

I was about to stand, but Edward was already taking a knee a knelling towards the women. Her name was Lilith Ambrosia the Third, third heir to the Lilith name and queen of all the North American vampires,She was dressed in a black blazer and pants set, with stiletto hills to match. Her pale snow like skin was offset with red rouged cheeks and dark eye makeup. She looked like a porcelain mannequin brought to life. She snapped her finger and Edward brought out her seat, she sat down and he stood behind her like a statue. and she was thirty minutes late.

“Do you mind if I smoke, of course you don't love” she said pulling out a metal case from her front jacket pocket.

“I didn't know you smoked?”

“That I didn't or couldn't?” she asked with a half cocked eyebrow

“A little of both, vampires don't have many function organs in the human sense, you don’t need to blink, or breath even. Most do it to pass as humans, or because they are very young.”

“Oh you little devil, how old do you think I am?” she asked leaning forward in her chair.

Now vampires don’t age like normal people, the are functioning immortals, who’s main means of permanent death are; prolonged exposure to sunlight, decapitation, and a stake to the heart. the last two though would pretty much kill anyone. After about five hundred years or so some vampires do begin to show sign of their age due to a harden of skin, making them even harder to kill. there skin becomes like concrete or even marble. I could always tell the age of a vampire from a glance. But I was raised better than that.

“If there is one thing Mother always told me, is to never guess a women's age, especially one capable of ripping my throat out in a whim.”

“And how is the true queen of England?” She asked as Edward fumbled to light her cigarette

Mother was the nickname for one of the oldest and most powerful vampires in all of western Europe. Her real name was Victoria Townsend, but due to her feeding habits she gained the nickname of mother. I was raised in her house along with several other orphans of a mystical nature. she was truly fond of children. Both in a loving manner and as a late night snack.

“Last we spoke, she was doing fine, having some problems dealing with a group of Irish vampires in her hunting grounds, but I doubt you came here to discuss business of my family.”

“Any other man would fall besides themselves to knell before me, yet you speak to me as if I’m a common women from the streets, why is that?” She said with a sour look on her face

“Please forgive my rudeness it must be the dreary time of the day…usually I’m still in bed.”

“Hmph, I find your frankness a bit…rude…and don’t blame it on the time of day either.”

“Honestly?!” I said leaning back in my seat “I don’t like being treated like a peon or a tool, I have a business to run, and it doesn’t matter if one is royalty or common, when you walk in to my office you are treated one and the same, so if that is rude to you, maybe I’m not the person for you.”
There was a long silence between me and Lilith, I stared from her to Edward to my cup of cold coffee…one thing in the world I hate is cold coffee…there is something so wrong about it.

“I’m sorry, it’s been a very long time for me, so I’m used to a certain level of given respect without giving any back.” She then bit her lip, and Edward begun to rub her shoulders and for a moment she looked so very human.

Damn it all, now I feel like an ass.

“Let’s start again, I might have been a bit to haste in my…frankness” I took a sip of the cold coffee, and smiled. “So how can I help you?”

Lilith sat up in her chair composing herself into the dominate figure that burst through my door a few moments before. She snapped her well manicured fingers and suddenly a file appeared on my desk., I didn’t look down at first, rule one of dealing with vampires, never let what they do appear to surprise you.

“As you may know, my Edward is on his way to become the mayor of New York, the only thing that is hurting him is some anti-vampire politics, but that shall be...dealt with”

This was all common knowledge, he was leading the polls by 10% but due to his support of the Vampire/human alliance, and his backing of turning governor island into a vampire haven, he was facing fire from the anti-vampire league and the catholic church.

She looked at me and took my silence as a cue to continue her story.

“We have been doing a pretty good job cleaning up the vampire image.”

“So you aren’t the blood-thirsty creature we have seen in movies?” I asked

“No we are, we just have amazing PR people.” She said with a smile.

“Okay so what is the problem, it wouldn’t be important if you didn’t seek my services?”

“The problem is inside the file, have you ever heard of Crimson Tears?”
